The idea that we can reset our metabolism sounds unbelievable. Is it really possible to undo the damage of all those late night Oreo binges and extra pieces of avo toast?
According to NFL god Steve Weatherford, the answer is yes. All we need is the Metabolic Reset Diet.
Of course, the NFL player didn’t invent the diet, there are several versions floating around. But they all focus on the idea that it’s possible to lose weight by tricking your metabolism into speeding up and burning more calories.
“The diet pattern will vary from plan to plan, but they all restrict your calorie intake—your whole grains, dairy, and fruit—and focus on increasing your protein intake,” Brigitte Zeitlin, R.D., owner of BZ Nutrition told Women’s Health.
You lose weight because restricting your calorie intake alters your metabolism, forcing it to break down food faster. Although Dr Zeitlin believes following the Metabolic Reset Diet could help people lose weight in the short term, she is sceptical about long-term results.
“The diet lasts for about one to two months, depending on the plan, and proclaims serious weight loss,” she said.
“What typically happens with these overly restrictive fad diets is that you lose weight quickly because you are drastically cutting out food groups and calories, only to regain the weight later on when you start to eat normally again.”
Instead, the nutritionist recommends a much simpler fix to achieve your dream bod and keep weight off long term. “You can increase your physical activity, eat breakfast and not skip meals, get adequate sleep, and increase your water intake,” she advised
“Filling [your] meals with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein (and cutting back on refined sugar and processed foods) will help boost your weight-loss game, no excessive restrictions required.”
“The weight will come off slower, but it will stay off: the true win!”
